CSA Policies

We ask all new subscribers to carefully read through the following guidelines. This creates a clear understanding between the farmer and member.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) was a model originally conceived in the idea that neighbors buy a “share”of the farm at the beginning of the season, covering the cost of seed, irrigation parts, compost, packing supplies, and the myriad of things that the farmer needed to get the season going, and taking on some of the risk that the farmer carries in planting, tending and harvesting crops. In exchange, the “share-owners” received fresh, seasonal produce from the farm on a regular basis. It is based on mutual respect between the customers and the farmers. Our current CSA model assumes this structure, but has evolved to give the subscriber more freedom in when and how much they pay at a time for their subscription.

Payments: We use a program called Farmigo to help manage the financial interactions between our customers and our farm. With it, Kindred Roots Farm subscribers have online access to their own accounts. We accept payment via Paypal or credit/debit card.

Box Sizes and Values: We offer three box sizes for you to choose from, depending on your household size and frequency of produce use.

Small $15| Medium $24.25 | Large $36

We offer a discount to subscribers who sign-up for larger delivery schedules upfront (12 and 24 deliveries) to help us finance the long-term operation of our farm.  We do also offer a 4-week delivery schedule at the normal price.

Autopay: Your account will be automatically charged again any time the balance falls to $0, and you will receive an email notification of the charge.  We also have certain thresholds in place so that if your balance drops below the cost of your next delivery (due to changes in subscription, bi-weekly add-ons, etc.), you will be notified of a "low balance" and asked to submit payment by logging into your CSA account.  If payment is not received, you will not receive a box for that week, and your subscription will be placed on hold until payment is received or canceled if not handled in a timely manner.  All communication will be sent via e-mail.

Communication: Kindred Roots publishes a weekly newsletter that subscribers receive via email. The newsletter will announce any important changes in delivery schedule, prices, policies, etc.

By agreeing to join our CSA, you are also agreeing to read email communications from us including:

  • Notice of account balance at $0 or "low balance"
  • Box on hold notice
  • Site changes / updates
  • Special announcements (new items available in CSA store, delivery changes due to holidays, etc.)
  • Site member communication (issues / changes at your site or important communication from your site host)

Please add info@kindredrootsfarm.com to your address book to protect our communications from spam filters.

We encourage subscribers to give us feedback about box quality and contents by emailing us at info@kindredrootsfarm.com. Please include the name on your account so that we can respond accordingly.

Refund / Credit: If you believe you deserve a credit for poor quality, damaged, or otherwise unsaleable produce, please email us. We will evaluate cases individually. Be sure to include what day/time you picked up the produce, how it was stored, and pictures if possible. We want to share the best quality produce possible, so your feedback helps us improve our systems and catch issues early on.

Missed Pick-Ups: If you fail to pick up your box on the day you are scheduled, you automatically forfeit your box and will still be charged.  If an unexpected emergency occurs on your scheduled pick-up day, please contact us via e-mail before 6pm (weekday) or 2pm (Saturday) and, if possible, we will try to make other arrangements with you.

Subscription Holds / Out of Town: If you are going to be out of town or unavailable on your scheduled pick-up day, you may send someone else to pick up your box for you, OR you can log into your CSA member account and place your pick-up on hold for the dates you will be unavailable.  When a subscription is on hold, your account balance will NOT be charged.

Subscription Cancellation: To cancel your Kindred Roots Farm subscription, please send us an email, as you are unable to cancel through your member login account.  NO REFUNDS will be issued for early cancellation of your subscription, unless otherwise arranged by management.  If management agrees to issue a refund as a courtesy, there will be an automatic 3.5% processing fee incurred plus a reduction in refund if you were originally given a discounted rate for signing up for our 12-week or 24-week delivery subscription but did not fulfill your commitment.  If a refund is granted, it will be issued in the original form of payment.

Pick-Up Location Etiquette: Kindred Roots Farm relies heavily on our own private drop sites, and we ask everyone to follow the following rules:

  • Please observe the pick-up times carefully and be respectful to your site host. Doors may be locked during other times. If you do not pick up your box during the designated hours, it is not guaranteed that you will receive it.
  • Take the box with your name on it, and remind your friend to do the same if they are picking up for you.
  • Do not look through other peoples' boxes.
  • Return your boxes for recycling. We use the boxes multiple times.

How do I get started?: Click on the "Get Started or Sign Up Today" tab on our website. A confirmation of your account, pickup location details, and start date will be automatically emailed to you once you complete the sign-up process.
